Updating an NBA preview after starters are announced

Confirmed starters resolve one question, not every tactical question. Update the role assumptions in a preview while leaving unconfirmed decisions open.

Confirmed starters resolve one question, not every tactical question. Update the role assumptions in a preview while leaving unconfirmed decisions open.

What to observe

Keep the source and announcement time. Separate an official starting list from a media projection or a training observation. Being named a starter does not establish a minute allocation or a closing role; those require further evidence.

How to read the sequence

Translate the change into observable responsibilities: initiating the offence, setting screens or helping protect the basket. Players with similar positional labels may perform different jobs. Replacing a name in a graphic while retaining every earlier conclusion is insufficient.

Limits and checks

Check the assignments once play begins and record departures from the expectation. Opponent choices can change the available options. Explaining why an assessment changed is more useful for later review than silently rewriting the preview after the outcome is known.
