A pressing preview is most useful when it offers observable questions. Map possible passing routes instead of declaring the winner of the tactical contest in advance.

What to observe

Identify the roles likely to build the first phase and the directions an opponent may try to close. A formation graphic is only a starting point. Actual support height, body orientation and the timing of a pass determine which route becomes usable.

How to read the sequence

Separate forcing play wide from immediately winning the ball. Pressure may aim to prevent a turn or make the next pass predictable. A preview should name the behaviour to observe rather than treating every backward pass as a failure.

Limits and checks

Test the questions against several comparable possessions after kick-off. A successful long pass may change the opponent’s positioning, while an error may be technical. Record how conditions change instead of selecting a single clip to prove the preview correct.
